Fitness test for sports equipment: a new standard for elliptical trainers

Stationary training equipment like the elliptical trainer is popular among amateur athletes since it can improve their endurance and work a variety of muscle groups. You will find these machines at gyms, but also in many homes. To ensure as much as possible that users can exercise without any risks, not only the equipment, but also the applicable safety standards undergo continual further development.

As a result, a new version of DIN EN ISO 20957-9Stationary training equipment – part 9: Elliptical trainers, additional specific safety requirements and test methods” will come into force on November 1, 2019. The most important change to this new version of the standard is a more detailed description of the test method in section 6.2 for testing squeezing and sheer points. In the process, the handling of the “test foot” as part of the test is described in greater detail.
